Advanced Winding Technology

CompoTech offers the design and supply of ‘turnkey’, automated fibre winding machines with full system service and support. These machines can be ordered from a standard platform with options to meet a variety of requirements to produce custom designed epoxy, carbon composite components.

The standard automated fibre winding machine offers fibre placement using a FANUC 6-axis robot. The integrated robot arm provides fully automated tool changes, part loading and unloading. Each specially designed ‘end of arm’ fibre delivery tool allows:

• True zero degrees axial fibre placement with consolidation
• Integrated Loop Technology (ILT) – CompoTech’s proprietary technology for automated continuous fibre structural and articulated joint capability
• Multiple fibre cross-wound layers and fibre pattern options

The automated production system also includes in-house developed SHNEG fibre placement and winding software that controls the robot arm and winding mandrel. The SHNEG 2.0 software converts a design specification into a production programme to precision manufacture carbon fibre epoxy composite components.
